What is Drupal?
Drupal was originally developed as a chat platform by two students from Antwerp. It served as a quick and easy way to communicate with each other. However, Dries Buytaert and Hans Snijder quickly recognized the potential of the system they had developed and made it publicly accessible to other users. The name was more a mishap than an intention - their domain was actually supposed to be called "dorp.org". dorp (meaning village) became drop.org - Dries later named the community platform Drupal. Since then, the community has grown steadily and the system has become increasingly popular.
The most efficient open source content management system
We see ourselves as a Drupal agency and implement most of our projects with the system - clearly our favorite when it comes to web solutions and applications. As an all-rounder of content management systems, so to speak, it scores points in very different areas, which will be examined in more detail below.
Drupal is an open source content management system ( CMS for short). In other words, it is license-free software that makes it easy to change and manage content created on a website (whether text, photos, videos, etc.). A content management system gives users the freedom to work flexibly and efficiently on their website and is particularly useful when several editors are involved in creating content.
Of course, other systems can also do this. Wordpress in particular is appreciated by its users for the fact that the CMS is easy to install and content can be created quickly and easily. However, this is also the crux of the matter: originally developed for blogs, Wordpress can be used to create "quick content" and add it to categories - but designing a website with several subpages, for example, is rather difficult and confusing.
Drupal 8
Thanks to its strong community, Drupal is constantly evolving and Drupal 8 is now on the market, with around 200 new features and functions compared to its predecessor 7. For us, this is precisely where the system's great strength lies.
As an agency specializing in Drupal for design, user experience and development, we focus - as they say - on technical innovations and have big visions in mind. A system that is constantly being improved and expanded by its strong community fits in quite well with our mission.
Because Drupal is an open source CMS, it can be used free of charge and can be adapted and modified according to individual requirements. It is of course a great advantage of Wordpress that the user interface is so easy to use. But Drupal also requires no programming knowledge or experience with HTML. The structures are easy to understand after a brief introduction and do not pose a problem for inexperienced CMS users when creating content. It is possible to work with a visual editor.
Working according to the modular principle
Drupal works according to a modular principle - usually also referred to as modularity. This means that systems are assembled into a large whole using defined interfaces (APIs). This means that individual parts of the modular system can be moved, rearranged or replaced directly.
Why Drupal is the better choice
There are many reasons why the CMS is the better choice in most cases. The fact that the user has access to almost 40,000 free modules makes it very efficient and powerful. Especially in the digital world, this saves time and allows users to exchange information with each other. The system clearly favors this exchange because it is a PHP-based system. This leaves plenty of scope for individuality:
PHP is a popular programming language that allows developers to customize the system by rewriting the language. PHP is often used because it is universally applicable and already makes the right assumptions for many use cases.
For us as a Drupal agency in particular, this allows us to develop and continuously improve sophisticated digital products.
Top 10 reasons
- Best choice for small and large websites
Drupal makes it easy to create both small and large websites. Because the system is individually expandable, the customer can decide which functions he wants to have added. The good thing about Drupal: If the company grows, the website can easily grow with it at any time. Want to add new functions and expand modules later? - No problem. - Open source and free
Drupal's source code is freely accessible and no fees are charged for its use. - Extensibility through a large community
A large community means a lot of different good knowledge. Know-how means constant improvements and effective exchange. - Modern technology and top performance
The modular design of the system means that not only websites can be implemented, but also blogs, online magazines, e-learning platforms, intranet applications and online stores.
Drupal stands for good performance and is designed for speed and stability: High-traffic websites in particular are implemented with Drupal. It is therefore no wonder that the website of the White House, Harvard University or the websites of brands such as Danone and Tesla were developed with the CMS. This is where other content management systems reach their limits. - Simple editing
Drupal offers editorial advantages. The role-based rights system integrated into the system makes it easy to edit the website together. - Modular system for content
Drupal makes web solutions scalable and customizable. - Accessibility
Drupal supports the accessible design of a website. This increases user-friendliness - even on mobile devices. - Multilingualism
Drupal is particularly suitable for multilingual websites, as the languages can be defined via a simple menu. - Top optimized for search engines
Drupal also offers advantages when it comes to search engine optimization. Modules that support SEO aspects (e.g. real-time SEO) can be easily integrated into the website. - More cost-efficient than other CMS
Because Drupal offers a setup of complex functionalities, it is not necessary to start from scratch when developing the website. This enables short project runtimes.
This is not only time-efficient for us, but also cost-efficient for the customer.
Future-proofing is important to us
Many of the reasons mentioned above already speak for Drupal's future security - a strong developer community, diverse extensions and optimal performance options. As a digital agency, a future-proof design is particularly important to us. Our projects should not only be visually appealing, but above all offer our customers security. But what exactly does that mean?
Future-proof also means investment security. With Drupal, we want to provide our customers with a content management system that can be used innovatively and remains adaptable in the long term - depending on creative requirements. It is important to us that we provide the customer with solutions and thus create digital products that not only look good, but also offer added value.
With Drupal, we can guarantee that web applications work with large numbers of visitors. After all, the focus here is also on the user: Drupal provides intuitive and targeted user guidance.
Sustainability and efficiency
... are therefore one of the most important features that we want to combine with an appealing design. It is important to us to implement attractive and powerful solutions for all web presences.
